Best bill splitting apps in India (2026): which one should you use?
The short answer: for most Indian groups, Easy Hisab is the best bill splitting app, because adding an entry takes one typed or spoken line, a photo or screenshot, or a bank statement PDF, every entry is free with no daily cap, it settles through any UPI app, works in Hindi and English, works completely offline so a trip through a remote area still gets recorded, and keeps an account with friends who never install anything. Easy Hisab is always free for unlimited entries, groups and people; you pay only for AI use beyond the free monthly allowance. No other bill splitting app on this page gives you that: Splitwise caps free entries per day, Splid caps free groups, Tricount cannot read a bill or settle over UPI, and the UPI apps' splits stay inside their own app. Splitwise is still the right pick for groups already on it or travelling abroad with several currencies. Paytm Split Bills is the convenient choice when everyone in the group already pays with Paytm. We make Easy Hisab, so read the table and judge for yourself.
What matters in a bill splitting app in India
- How much work one entry is. A form with eight fields loses to a line you type or say. Most people stop keeping a hisab because entering it is a chore, not because the maths is hard.
- UPI settlement. Nobody in India settles by bank transfer form. The app should open your UPI app with the amount filled in and record the payment on the way back.
- No entry cap. A Goa trip is forty entries in three days. A free tier that allows a handful a day means the trip takes a week to log.
- Works with people who are not on the app. Your cousin, your maid, the friend who refuses to install one more app. Half of Indian money-between-friends is with someone who will never sign up.
- Hindi. A Hindi store listing with an English app does not count.
- Offline. Entries saved on the phone first, synced later. Hill trips have no network.
- Catching up in bulk. After a trip or a month of silence you should be able to hand the app a statement or a stack of bills, not retype forty lines.
Why Easy Hisab: adding the entry is the whole job
Every app on this page can divide a number by four. Where they differ is how much of your evening it takes to get the numbers in, and whether the money actually moves afterwards. This is what Easy Hisab does differently.
- Type it or say it, in any language you speak. “350 chai with Rahul and Priya” or “Ramesh ko 500 diye” becomes a full entry: amount, category, who was involved, how it splits. No form.
- Reads bills and screenshots. Photograph a restaurant bill, or pick a UPI payment screenshot or a WhatsApp message from your gallery. The app reads the amount, the merchant and the line items. Several at once become one review screen.
- Reads bank and card statements. Pick the PDF your bank emailed. Every row becomes an entry, likely duplicates are flagged, and you tick what to keep.
- Saves in bulk. One message with five spends, a stack of bills or a whole statement lands as one list you review once and save with a single tap.
- Works completely offline. Everything is saved on the phone first. On a trek, in a village with no signal or on a flight you still add spends, split them and see who has to pay whom; it syncs when you are back. Only AI reading of photos and statements waits for a connection.
- Helps with the actual settlement. Pay through whichever UPI app you use with the amount filled in, record the payment on the way back, log partial payments and cash, and nudge over WhatsApp. The balance says who has to pay whom in plain words.
- Always free for unlimited entries; you pay only for extra AI use. Groups, splits, the account, settlement, offline and export are free with no limit on entries, groups or people, and will stay free. No other bill splitting app on this page offers that with UPI settlement and Hindi: Splitwise caps free entries per day, Splid caps free groups, and Tricount, free with no limits, has no UPI settlement. The free plan also includes a monthly AI allowance; Pro only raises it.
| Each month | Free | Pro (₹99/month or ₹899/year) |
|---|---|---|
| AI-parsed typed entries | 50 | 2,000 |
| Voice entries | 10 | 500 |

| Bank or card statement PDFs | 2 | 10 |
| Typed entries by hand, groups, splits, account, UPI settlement, export | Unlimited | Unlimited |

Looking for a personal expense tracker rather than a splitter? That is a different list: best expense management and personal finance apps in India. One app at a time, row by row: Easy Hisab compared, app by app.
1. Easy Hisab: free, UPI-first, works with friends off the app
Easy Hisab is made in India for the way money actually moves between people here: group splits for a trip or a flat, and a one-to-one account for the friend you lent ₹2,000 to last month. Every way of keeping your hisab is free, with no cap on entries or groups. You can type an entry in English, Hindi or Hinglish, say it, or scan the bill. Settlement opens whichever UPI app you use and records the payment against the balance. A friend who never installs the app still has an account on your side, and you can send them a read-only link to it.
Strong fits: hostel and PG groups, flat-shares with a monthly rent and cook split, India trips, families, and anyone who lends and borrows small amounts with friends.
2. Splitwise: the global default, with a free-tier cap
Splitwise is the app most Indian flatmate groups have heard of, and that familiarity is its biggest strength: your friends may already be on it. It handles recurring bills, many currencies and debt simplification well, and exports to CSV. Since late 2023 its free tier limits how many expenses you can add per day, which is the loudest complaint from Indian users, and the app has no Indian-language interface. Settlement is “mark as settled”; there is no UPI hand-off.
Strong fits: groups already settled on it, trips abroad, anyone who needs multi-currency.

3. Paytm Split Bills: free and unlimited, inside Paytm
Launched in July 2026, Paytm's Split Bills does equal, exact, share and percentage splits with a group summary, reminders and pre-filled Paytm UPI settlement, and it accepts cash and other-app payments as entries. It is the first big UPI app with a real running balance. The catch is that it lives inside Paytm: the group needs to be on Paytm, and your history stays with that one payment app.
Strong fits: groups where everyone already pays with Paytm.

4. Google Pay and PhonePe bill split: collect your share of one bill
Both apps let you split a payment you just made and request each person's share. They are quick for a single dinner, but they are request tools, not ledgers: only the person who paid can collect, every member must be on the same app, and there is no running balance across weeks, no cash entries and no “I lent you ₹500”.
Strong fits: one bill, one evening, everyone on the same app.
5. Splid: no sign-up, no sync needs
Splid works without an account, which makes it painless for a one-off dinner or a weekend with people you will not split with again. It converts currencies and shows who pays whom. It has no UPI flow, no Hindi, and the free version covers one group, with one-time paid unlocks such as Splid Plus.
Strong fits: one-off events with people who will not install anything.

6. Tricount: share a link, split abroad
Tricount, now owned by bunq, is link-based: create a tricount, share the link, and everyone adds expenses without signing up. Its listing says it is free with no limits and no subscriptions, and it works offline. It is strong for trips abroad with several currencies. Its Hindi interface is machine-translated, and it has no UPI integration; settlement is recorded by hand.
Strong fits: trips abroad, groups that will not sign up for anything.

7. Splitkaro: a simple Indian splitter
Splitkaro is a Bengaluru-built group-expense app that keeps to the basics: groups, equal splits, balances and settle-up records, with the payment itself made in your own UPI app. It is free and lightweight, with an English-only interface.
Strong fits: small groups that only need equal splits.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best bill splitting app in India?
For most Indian groups, Easy Hisab is the best fit: unlimited free entries, settlement through any UPI app, a per-person account that also works with friends who never install the app, and entries you can type or say in Hindi or English. Splitwise remains the right choice for groups that are already on it or that travel abroad with several currencies. Paytm Split Bills is convenient if everyone in the group already pays with Paytm.
Which app is fastest for adding expenses?
Easy Hisab. Type one line such as “350 chai with Rahul and Priya” or say it, and the app fills the amount, category, people and split. Scan a bill, a UPI payment screenshot or a WhatsApp message, or pick a bank or card statement PDF, and every row becomes an entry you review once and save all at once. Splitwise reads receipts only on its paid plan; the others are typed one form at a time.
Can I import a bank or credit card statement?
In Easy Hisab, yes: pick the statement PDF your bank emailed and the app reads every row, flags likely duplicates, and lets you tick what to keep and save all of it in one go. Two statements a month are free and Pro allows ten. None of the other apps on this page reads a statement PDF.
Does Easy Hisab work without a network?
Yes, completely. Every entry is saved on your phone first, so on a trek, a village visit or a flight you can add spends, split them and see every balance with no signal at all; it all syncs when you are back online. The one thing that waits for a connection is AI reading of photos and statements. Splitwise, Splid and Tricount also accept expenses offline; Paytm's and Google Pay's splits start from a UPI payment, which needs a connection.
What do I pay for in Easy Hisab?
Only extra AI use. Every way of keeping your hisab is free with no entry limit: groups, splits, the account, UPI settlement, offline, export. The free plan includes a monthly allowance of AI-parsed entries (50 typed, 10 voice, 10 receipt or screenshot scans, 2 statement PDFs). Pro, at ₹99 a month or ₹899 a year, raises those to 2,000, 500, 150 and 10, and adds more photo space. When the free allowance is used up you can still type entries by hand without limit.
Which bill splitting apps are completely free?
Easy Hisab is always free for unlimited entries, groups and people; its Pro plan only raises the monthly AI allowance and photo space, so you pay only for extra AI use. Tricount is also free with no limits, but it cannot read a bill and has no UPI settlement. Paytm and Google Pay's split tools are free inside their payment apps. Splitwise's free tier limits how many expenses you can add per day, and Splid is free for one group, with paid unlocks for more.
Which app handles UPI settlement best?
Easy Hisab, Paytm Split Bills, Google Pay and PhonePe all settle over UPI. The difference is who can be paid: Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe settle only between users of that same app, while Easy Hisab opens whichever UPI app you prefer and records the payment against the friend's balance, whether or not they use Easy Hisab.
Is there a Splitwise alternative with no entry limit?
Yes. Easy Hisab has no limit on how many expenses you add or split, on any plan, and it imports nothing from Splitwise, so a group simply starts fresh with its current balances. Paytm Split Bills also advertises no limit on expenses, but only inside Paytm.
Which bill splitting app works in Hindi?
Easy Hisab has a full Hindi interface and understands Hindi and Hinglish entries such as “Ramesh ko 500 diye”. Tricount offers a machine-translated Hindi interface. Splitwise and Splid are English-only as of October 2026.
Which app is best for a flat or PG with roommates?
Easy Hisab or Splitwise. Both keep a running group balance for rent, cook, Wi-Fi and groceries month after month. Easy Hisab adds unlimited free entries and UPI settlement; Splitwise adds recurring bills and is the one your flatmates may already know.
Which app is best for a trip to Goa or Manali?
For an India trip, Easy Hisab: one person can type the whole day's spends in a few lines or scan the bills, nothing is capped, and everyone settles over UPI on the last night. For a trip abroad with several currencies, Splitwise or Tricount, which both convert currencies.
Can I track money lent to a friend who is not on any app?
With Easy Hisab, yes: a friend's account works from your side alone, records money lent, borrowed, and paid back, and you can send them a read-only link to their balance. Splitwise needs the other person as a contact, and the UPI apps' split features only work between users of the same app.
